What You Should Know if You’re Stuck in Jail

As bail bonds agents, we don’t want you stuck in jail.  In fact, it’s our goal to get you out of there as soon as possible.  In the meantime, there is some practical information we want you to know.  Hopefully it will even help you make bail quickly.

We are reminded of a client who called us in years ago.  John decided to brag to a fellow cellmate that he had plane tickets to another country.  He confided that once he was bailed out he was never coming back to the states.

Can you guess where this story is going?

The cellmate was only too happy to repeat what he considered good dirt.  After all, it might help his own case.  So he started talking to the corrections officer.  Our office was also tipped off as was the prosecutor.  Would it surprise you to hear that John couldn’t make bail?

With that in mind, here’s some suggestions if you’re stuck in jail.

Suggestions if You’re Waiting to Bailed Out

If you’re in jail you won’t be able to access this checklist.  However, we’re hopeful that your loved ones can relay it to you.  You’ll find it’s pretty basic:

• Discuss your case with NO ONE.
• Monitor your phone conversations. Your phone calls are being recorded and monitored by the prison staff.
• Mail is opened and read by prison staff before it reaches your hands.
• Make a mental or written assessment of your assets that may be used as collateral.

• Get together all the information you need to get bailed out.
• Cooperate with the authorities.
• Secure legal counsel or ask for a public defender.
